Description

  • 1864 1d, 6d (2) & 1/- all handstamped SPECIMEN with type D5.
  • The 1d and a 6d IN BLUE; other 6d & 1/- in black.
  • Most probably from the De La Rue reference collection.
  • F-VF/M large part OG, some imperfections. (Yes, for some reason these early period specimens were frequently separated by scissors notwithstanding perforations!)
  • Samuel states that whilst perhaps between 1 & 6 examples of this stamp/handstamp combination may exist,
  • the D5 handstamp struck in blue is most unusual and particularly elusive.
  • The coloured impression may denote a special usage of the Specimen.
  • A very difficult to replicate group thus.
