1865 PENNY RATE LOCAL "DROP" LETTER: Folded blue letter entire written in French used locally within Cape Town (BONC 1 and Cape Town cds JU 1) to "Monsieur Heritte, Consul de France, Cape Town". Franked De La Rue 1d brownish-red (SG 18c) triangular cut-in/touched in places, huge margin at right. Tied by BONC leaving Hope unobscured. An exceedingly rare example of this local 1d franking.
