PRESENTATION SPECIMEN: 1884-90 2d bistre Hope Seated (SG 50) handstamped "SPECIMEN" in violet with small italic type SA1. VF/M, an exceedingly rare specimen thus. Photo-cert: BPA. See clickable image of certificate below.
Believed to have been prepared for presentation purposes prior to Union. This italic handstamp was utilised by the Cape Colony for defacement of incoming Record Book specimens that were not already marked "Specimen".
