1926 MITTELHOLZER "AFRIKAFLUG": Switzerland postcard flown from Zurich back to Switzerland via Naples. Postmarked to record the flight and showing on the front, the special "AFRIKAFLUG" flight cachet. Light central fold mentioned for accuracy, otherwise VF, attractive, scarce. Swiss aviator Walter Mittelholzer undertook the 19000k journey between Zurich & Cape Town, this the first flight of a seaplane down Africa. Departure was 7?? December and the flight was arranged via Naples where the mail was in fact unloaded and thereafter conveyed onwards by ship. Mittelholzer continued the flight arriving in Cape Town February 21st 1927.
