Description

1934 FLOODS EMERGENCY AIRMAIL: Registered envelope from Keetmanshoop (7 FEB) to Windhoek with cachet in violet PER AERO SERVICES (PTY) LTD additionally PILOT SIGNED "Gordon Store". The cover franked 2x 4d Airs, great strike Keetmanshoop boxed registration mark. Backstamp Windhoek 8.2.34. Of the (small) mails carried only a few covers received the Aero Services handstamp by way of distinguishing it. Superb, an SWA Aerophilatelic rarity. Signed: Stern. Ex Stern, Jeidel & Polakow. In early 1934 torrential rains in SWA caused washaways of the railway system. Surface transport ceased and extensive delays with postal services resulted. The Post Office entered into an arrangement with Mr Gordon Store of Aero Services (Pty) Ltd, Cape Town, who was doing aerial charter work in SWA. Available load space after provision for his passengers was placed at the disposal of the Post Office for its mails.
