1937-39 PORTUGUESE RECEIVING AUTHORITY ARCHIVE SPECIMENS: 1937 Mail Train 1½d and KGVI Coronation ½d - 1/-, Full Sets in both English & Afrikaans language singles each handstamped "SPECIMEN" in green/blue in the usual manner of UPU distribution. Also SWA and SA Hugenot commemoratives, the SA handstamped, the SWA not. Affixed together on portion of Archive folio sheet. A very rare surviving group thus proving distribution of the sets as UPU specimens and illustrating practical archiving of the bilingual specimens by a Receiving Authority. Minor imperfections, overall of sound appearance, most attractive array. These emanate from a Portuguese Colonial receiving authority in India (probably Portuguese Goa). The specimens (received through the UPU) for distribution to the overseas Portuguese colonies. The handstamp type is that seen on the SWA stamps included in the Portuguese Colonial Receiving Authority archive (Goa?) offered by Spink, London, November 10th 1999 as lot 2242.
