1903 KLIP RIVER CAMP TEMPORARY POST OFFICE: Envelope to Ireland, franked KEVII 1d clearly tied by the exceedingly rare Camp cds 31 AUG. The Klip River Camp post office was opened temporarily during military manoeuvres, for only FIFTY DAYS (12/8-1/10/03). Putzel rates mail from the camp as "EXTREMELY RARE" and in the substantive article by Jim Findlay writing in the SA Philaelist of February 2010 it is suggested only three covers bearing the postmark are known. VF. Of maritime interest, this envelope bears on reverse Holyhead & Kingston Packet cds SE 20. The cover would have been carried from Cape Town per RMS Norman departing 2nd September arriving Southampton 19th September. Thence by rail to Holyhead and on to Ireland per SS Munster.
